A solar panel warranty is really several warranties working together: one from the installer for the quality of the work, and one from each manufacturer for the panels, inverter and battery. With Kingsmead Solar you get a 10-year workmanship warranty backed by insurance, so it still stands even if we stopped trading, plus manufacturer warranties registered in your name at handover.
- 10 years on our workmanship, insurance backed
- 25 to 30 years typical manufacturer warranty on panels
- 10 to 12 years typical inverter warranty
- 10 years or more typical battery warranty
- 14 days cooling-off after you sign
What each warranty covers
| Warranty | Who gives it | Typical length | Covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workmanship | Us, backed by insurance | 10 years | Our installation: fixings, roof penetrations, wiring, connections and mounting |
| Panel product | Panel manufacturer | 25 to 30 years | Defects in materials and manufacture |
| Panel performance | Panel manufacturer | 25 to 30 years | A guaranteed share of original output by the end of the term |
| Inverter | Inverter manufacturer | 10 to 12 years | Inverter faults and failure |
| Battery | Battery manufacturer | 10 years or more | Faults, plus a guaranteed share of usable capacity |
Exact terms vary by model, and your quote lists the warranty on every component before you sign.
Our 10-year workmanship warranty
If something goes wrong because of how we installed your system, we come back and put it right at no cost for 10 years. That includes:
- leaks where our roof hooks, brackets or cable entries pass through the roof
- loose or failed rails, clamps and fixings
- wiring and connection faults on both the DC and AC side
- isolators, meters and switchgear we fitted, where the fault comes from installation
- bird mesh we fitted coming away
The warranty is backed by an insurance policy. If we ever ceased trading, the insurer would honour valid claims for the remainder of the term, so the promise does not depend on us being around. You receive the policy details in your handover pack.
What is not covered
We would rather be clear now than argue later. Our workmanship warranty does not cover:
- storm, fire, flood, falling trees or other accidental damage, which is a matter for your home insurance
- alterations or repairs by anyone else, including roofers working near the panels
- defects in parts of the roof we did not touch
- lower output caused by weather, new shading, or dirt on the panels
- faults in the components themselves, which fall under the manufacturer warranties instead
- power cuts and problems on the grid side of your meter
It is worth telling your home insurer that you have solar panels, and our guide on solar panel maintenance and cleaning covers what to keep an eye on.
Manufacturer warranties
We fit panels from tier one manufacturers, inverters and batteries from established brands, and register each warranty in your name at handover. Panel manufacturers give two warranties: a product warranty against defects, and a performance warranty guaranteeing a set share of the original output at the end of the term. Panels lose a little output each year, and the performance warranty covers anything worse. Battery warranties usually guarantee a share of usable capacity after 10 years or a set number of cycles. Our guide on how long solar panels last explains what to expect over the decades.
Protection before and during the job
We are members of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC), a consumer code approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, which all MCS installers must belong to. Under it:
- Deposits are protected. RECC members must insure deposits and advance payments, so you are protected if an installer stops trading before finishing the job. We take no deposit until after the survey.
- You have 14 days to cancel after signing, without giving a reason.
- Selling is regulated. RECC sets rules on fair quotes, honest performance estimates and no pressure selling.
- Disputes have somewhere to go. RECC offers mediation, and if that does not resolve it, a low-cost independent arbitration service as an alternative to court.
Your system is also MCS certified, which you need for the Smart Export Guarantee and resale. Read about how we work for our standards.
If you sell your house
Warranties are part of what a buyer is paying for. Our workmanship warranty stays with the property for the rest of its term, and manufacturer warranties generally transfer with the equipment. Keep the handover pack together, as buyers' solicitors usually ask for the MCS certificate, electrical certificate and warranty documents. Our guide to solar panels and selling your house covers the rest.
How to make a claim
- Get in touch. Call our aftercare line or contact us with your address and a short description of the problem. Photos and screenshots from the monitoring app help.
- We diagnose remotely first. Many inverter and battery faults show up in monitoring data, and some can be fixed without a visit.
- We visit if needed. An engineer inspects the system and tells you whether the fault is workmanship, a manufacturer issue or something else.
- We fix or claim. Workmanship faults are put right under our warranty. For component faults we help you raise the claim with the manufacturer and fit the replacement part.
Keep your handover pack: your MCS certificate, warranty documents and insurance policy details are all in it. You will need them for claims, for your export tariff and when you sell the house.
